The Amex Membership Rewards to Virgin Atlantic 30% transfer bonus, and what it unlocks

From now through July 31, 2026, Amex Membership Rewards is transferring to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club at a 30% bonus, so 1,000 Amex points become 1,300 Virgin points (per Frequent Miler). That moves the effective ratio to 1:1.3 for the window.

Upper Class on transatlantic routes is the standout: 35,000 points one-way with the bonus drops to 27,000 Amex points transferred, cutting the cost by nearly 23 percent from the raw redemption rate. The Kenya property and Virgin Voyages cruises offer alternative buckets if flight awards don't align with your calendar.

Is it worth transferring

Transfers to airline programs are irreversible, so move points only when you have a specific booking in mind. If you're targeting Upper Class transatlantic travel or a paid Virgin Voyages cruise, the bonus justifies a transfer. For economy saver redemptions, the math works out cleanly: you cut 1,000 points per person off the standard cost. However, if you don't have a firm booking date, holding Amex Membership Rewards for future flexibility often beats chasing the bonus.
