What Capital One Miles actually gets you

After the September 23, 2025 additions of Japan Airlines Mileage Bank, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, and I Prefer Hotel Rewards, Capital One Miles became the largest transfer-partner stack among premium-fee US transferable currencies at 22 (AwardWallet, 2025-09-23). 18 airlines and 4 hotels, spanning all three major alliances plus four unaffiliated carriers. Amex MR sits at 20 and Citi TY at 21-22 depending on whether you count Shop Your Way; Bilt's 23 partners technically edges Cap One but Bilt is a rent-anchored product whose 2026-01-14 2.0 reset makes premium-MR-style point accumulation harder for non-renter spending. A different product class. Among the cards travelers actually pay annual fees to hold, Cap One has the broadest list.

What that breadth gets you isn't a uniformly better redemption stack. Cap One has gaps the others don't, and worse ratios on a few partners. But for travelers who want optionality across every alliance and the occasional niche-program redemption, Cap One is the most flexible single currency you can hold. Finnair Plus is uniquely Cap One. No other major-bank transferable reaches Finnair, which matters for oneworld optimization. Finnair's award chart sometimes prices LH/UA-style routings at saver levels American won't. And after Amex MR's March 1, 2026 devaluation to 5:4, only Cap One, Citi TY, and Bilt still reach Cathay Asia Miles at 1:1. Aeroplan, Avianca, Singapore, Turkish, Flying Blue, and Etihad all transfer at 1:1 too, giving Cap One full Star Alliance + SkyTeam coverage at par.

Most airline ratios are 1:1, with four exceptions. Emirates Skywards 4:3 (the worst of the three premium-fee transferable currencies; Amex MR and Citi TY both sit at 5:4, Bilt holds 1:1). JetBlue TrueBlue 5:3 (worst of the three; Amex MR is 5:4 and Citi TY is 1:1 on Strata Premier or Elite). EVA Air 4:3 and JAL 4:3 (both newer-style ratios). On hotels, two exceptions: Accor 2:1 and I Prefer 1:2 (the 1:2 looks great but I Prefer points value sub-cent). The 4:3 ratios on EVA and JAL are direct ports of the partner programs' valuations rather than penalties, meaningful only when comparing across issuers for the same redemption.

Most recent changes: Japan Airlines, Qatar Airways, and I Prefer all added 2025-09-23 in a single batch that took Cap One past Amex MR's 20-partner count. All four previously deferred partners (Aeromexico, Virgin Red, Choice Privileges, I Prefer Hotel Rewards) are now in the Points Radar calculator as of 2026-05-17.

How to actually use Capital One Miles

  1. Use the alliance breadth when you don't know your routing yet. Cap One's 22 partners cover every major alliance and most of the niche-but-useful programs (Finnair, TAP, Aeromexico). If you haven't picked a destination or are flexible on timing, holding Cap One Miles preserves optionality the narrower stacks don't. Tokyo via ANA on Virgin Atlantic at 85,000 miles one-way from JFK (our ANA First sweet-spot page, audited 2026-04-15)? Cap One reaches it at 1:1. Europe in business via Turkish at 65K? Same. Star Alliance through Avianca at 80K? Same. The page costs the same; the difference is you don't have to know which six months out.
  2. Finnair Plus is the niche-but-useful play. Finnair's award chart prices oneworld partner redemptions on its own zones, which occasionally beats American AAdvantage's chart for the same routing. Particularly for Helsinki-routed Europe-Asia connections and certain Aer Lingus US-Dublin redemptions. Cap One is the only transferable that reaches Finnair, so this redemption path is structurally unavailable to Amex/Citi/Chase holders.
  3. Confirm availability before you transfer. Same rule as MR and TY: transfers are permanent. Verify award space on the radar or seats.aero before moving points. Most airline transfers post instantly to 24 hours.
  4. Move only what you need. Especially important at Cap One's 4:3 partners (Emirates, EVA, JAL) where a 1,000-mile over-transfer is actually a 750-mile over-transfer in the destination program. Calculate the destination total first, work backward to the Cap One requirement.
  5. Don't transfer to Emirates from Cap One if Bilt or Amex MR/Citi are options. Cap One's 4:3 Emirates ratio is the worst among premium-fee transferables. A 163,500-mile Skywards First-to-Dubai redemption costs 218,000 Cap One Miles (163,500 × 4/3), versus 204,375 from Amex or Citi (163,500 × 5/4), versus 163,500 from Bilt at 1:1. If you have multi-currency exposure, source Emirates transfers from anywhere but Cap One.

What Capital One Miles does not transfer to

Cap One's gaps are smaller than the other premium issuers' but specific. Cap One does not reach:

  • World of Hyatt. Same gap as Amex MR and Citi TY. Hyatt is the highest-value hotel transfer in the US market and only Bilt and Chase UR reach it.
  • American AAdvantage. Citi (post-2025-07-27) is the only US transferable that reaches AAdvantage; Cap One does not. (Bilt's AAdvantage partnership ended 2024-06-24 per TPG, so Citi is the sole path.) If LATAM business or AA-chart-priced Cathay First is core to your strategy, layer in Citi.
  • United MileagePlus directly. Use Aeroplan, Avianca, or Singapore for United partner-priced metal. All three of which Cap One reaches at 1:1.
  • Alaska Mileage Plan. Bilt-only among transferables.
  • Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors, IHG One Rewards. Cap One's hotel partners are Wyndham, Accor, Choice, and I Prefer. For mid-tier branded hotel needs, Amex (Marriott + Hilton + Choice) or Chase (Hyatt + IHG + Marriott) fill the gap. If you're booking a one-off paid stay at a mid-tier branded property and the Cap One ecosystem can't reach it on points, comparing cash rates at Hotels.com is the path of least resistance.

Cross-referenced against every transferable currency's partner list on 2026-05-17. If Hyatt or American are central to your strategy, treat Cap One as a complement to Chase UR or Citi TY, not a foundation.

What can go wrong

  • Emirates 4:3 is worse than Amex/Citi at 5:4. Easy mistake to make if you're used to thinking of Cap One as the "most-flexible" currency. Most flexible doesn't mean best-rate at every partner. Source Emirates transfers from any other premium-fee currency before Cap One.
  • JetBlue 5:3 is genuinely bad. TrueBlue redemptions are revenue-based at ~1.35 cpp (TPG May 2026 valuations). At 5:3, you're transferring 1 Cap One for ~0.81 cents of JetBlue value. Almost any other partner beats this on cents-per-point from Cap One. Use Cap One for JetBlue only when no other partner gets you there.
  • The 2025-09-23 JAL launch bonus is over. Cap One ran a 30% bonus to JAL for the first month of the partnership (Frequent Miler launch coverage). That window closed late October 2025. Today's JAL transfers settle at the 4:3 base rate.
  • Capital One transfer bonuses are rare overall. Like Citi, Cap One runs bonuses far less frequently than Amex or Chase. Don't sit on time-sensitive transfers waiting for one.
  • High-cash-value redemptions still need trip protection. A 218,000-Cap-One Emirates First-to-Dubai transfer represents real cash equivalent at retail. For trips at that scale, trip insurance via World Nomads We receive a fee when you get a quote from World Nomads using this link. We do not represent World Nomads. This is not a recommendation to buy travel insurance. is worth considering. Single-trip policies cover medical evacuation, trip interruption, and cancellation gaps that credit card travel coverage often misses, especially on the long-haul international itineraries Cap One's high-cpp redemptions point toward.

May 2026 firsthand

Zero active Cap One transfer bonuses as of 2026-05-17 (our live transfer-bonus tracker). The September 2025 JAL launch bonus is fully closed; Cap One has not run a follow-on bonus in the eight months since.

The bigger structural opportunity: the Etihad-via-Amex cutoff on June 30, 2026. After that date, only Cap One, Citi, and Bilt reach Etihad Guest (Frequent Miler dated cutoff; The Points Guy). Among premium-fee issuers, that leaves Cap One and Citi. Cap One holders are positioned to inherit Etihad demand that's currently MR-funded. Etihad's First Apartment award space has been more available than usual in May (our availability pipeline, week of 2026-05-12); causes are unclear but one plausible read is MR holders pulsing through balances ahead of the deadline.

The other quiet shift: Cap One's September 2025 expansion to 22 partners (JAL + Qatar + I Prefer) is eight months old as of writing, which is enough runway to evaluate whether the new partners are durable rather than promotional. So far none of the three has been removed or had ratios cut, and Capital One has not pre-announced any pending changes (Frequent Miler launch coverage and ongoing tracker; our partner-table audit 2026-05-17). The JAL 4:3 ratio is the only one worth watching, since it's already the wrong direction for Cap One's positioning as the broadest-coverage currency.

Common questions

Which airlines partner with Capital One miles?
Capital One Miles transfer to 18 airline programs: Air Canada Aeroplan, Aeromexico Rewards, Air France/KLM Flying Blue, Avianca LifeMiles, British Airways Executive Club, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, Emirates Skywards, Etihad Guest, EVA Air Infinity, Finnair Plus, Japan Airlines Mileage Bank, JetBlue TrueBlue, Qantas Frequent Flyer, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, Singapore KrisFlyer, TAP Air Portugal Miles&Go, Turkish Miles&Smiles, and Virgin Red. JAL, Qatar, and I Prefer were added 2025-09-23.
Does Capital One transfer to American AAdvantage?
No. American AAdvantage is reachable only from Citi ThankYou among major US transferable currencies (the partnership launched 2025-07-27). If American AAdvantage is central to your stack, Citi Strata Premier or Elite is the relevant earning card.
Does Capital One transfer to Hyatt?
No. World of Hyatt is a Chase Ultimate Rewards partner. Capital One's four hotel partners are Wyndham Rewards, Accor Live Limitless, Choice Privileges, and Preferred Hotels and Resorts I Prefer. If Hyatt is central to your travel, Chase UR or Bilt Rewards are the relevant currencies.
Does Capital One transfer to Finnair?
Yes, at 1:1. Capital One is the only major US transferable currency that partners with Finnair Plus. Finnair's award chart sometimes prices Lufthansa, United, or other oneworld partner routings at saver levels American AAdvantage will not, which makes it a niche but real optimization for oneworld redemptions.
What changed when JAL, Qatar, and I Prefer landed in September 2025?
On 2025-09-23, Capital One added Japan Airlines Mileage Bank (1:1, useful for JAL premium-cabin redemptions to Asia), Qatar Airways Privilege Club (1:1, useful for the Qsuites Avios chart via Privilege Club), and I Prefer Hotel Rewards (1:2, though I Prefer points value sub-cent so the ratio is misleading). With those three additions, Capital One became the broadest US transferable stack at 22 programs.
