Hawaiian Airlines formally joined the oneworld alliance on April 22, 2026. This completes the alliance migration that began when Alaska Airlines acquired Hawaiian (deal closed October 2024) and consolidated both loyalty programs into Atmos Rewards on October 1, 2025.

What changes

Hawaiian-operated flights (route codes HA, transitioning to AS metal over the next year) are now bookable using any oneworld partner currency:

  • British Airways Avios (transferable from Chase UR, Amex MR, Capital One, Bilt)
  • Iberia Avios (Chase UR, Amex MR, Capital One, Bilt)
  • Cathay points (Amex MR, Citi TY, Capital One, Bilt)
  • Qatar Avios (Amex MR, Citi TY, Capital One, Bilt)
  • American AAdvantage (Citi TY, Bilt indirectly via Atmos)
  • Atmos Rewards directly (Bilt at 1:1)

The standout sweet spot

Cathay points are particularly strong for West Coast to Honolulu redemptions because Cathay's chart runs dramatically below US-carrier rates on that route. With Hawaiian now formally in oneworld, the same Cathay chart applies to legacy Hawaiian-operated routes. Cathay-to-Honolulu redemptions from LAX, SFO, SJC, SEA, PDX should clear materially cheaper than going through Alaska's own Atmos chart for the same flight.

What this doesn't change

  • The Atmos Rewards program itself stays as the combined Alaska+Hawaiian loyalty currency, unchanged in its 1:1 Bilt transfer ratio.
  • HawaiianMiles balances were converted to Atmos points back in October 2025; no further action needed for legacy Hawaiian-only members.
  • Direct Hawaiian-only routes (HA flight code) still operate during the brand sunset transition; bookings through any oneworld partner currency apply normally.

What to do

  1. For West Coast to Honolulu trips, compare Atmos direct (via Bilt) against Cathay points (via Amex/Citi/Cap One/Bilt) before transferring. Cathay is often cheaper on the same route.
  2. For inter-island Hawaii routes, Atmos direct remains the best option since Hawaiian-operated short-hauls are typically excluded from partner-redemption charts.
  3. For mainland-to-Hawaii premium cabin, the new oneworld access opens routing through programs like JAL (also a Bilt 1:1 partner) that previously couldn't book Hawaiian flights.
